Residents and tourists can take advantage of the great outdoors on its many trails by indulging in walking or mountain biking, and its mountainous terrain attracts mountain bike enthusiasts. Shawville is known as the commercial center of the Pontiac. In addition to about fifty local businesses, including chain stores and small local businesses such as a bakery, a butcher, fashion boutiques and various types of restaurants, Shawville is also the medical center of the Pontiac. The Victorian-style red brick houses found in the old heart of the village remind us of the prosperity of Shawville over time. The annual Shawville Agricultural Fair, one of the oldest in Canada, celebrates the history of this village settled by Irish farmers in 1873.
